Government Should Increase Transparency Related to Investigatory and Surveillance Activities
Today, July 18, 2012, Americans for Tax Reform is proud to be a signatory of a letter urging greater transparency in national security requests related to telephone, internet, and web-based providers. We believe the federal government should provide the public with more information on how it is using its law enforcement investigatory and surveillance abilities. An increase in transparency related to these abilities will assist in the facilitation of public discussion on the proper balance between personal privacy and national security. Furthermore, we suggest Congress needs to pass legislation allowing transparency reporting by companies without first having to obtain permission from the government. The full letter can be found here.
