Wired or Wireless, Regulations Should Not Hinder Innovation

The following statement regarding the House Energy & Commerce Hearing on Wired Communications Networks can be attributed to Katie McAuliffe, Executive Director of Digital Liberty & Federal Affairs Manager at Americans for Tax Reform:

WASHINGTON, D.C. – If the history of telecommunications in the United States has taught us anything, it is that when companies are free from the burdens of excessive regulation, innovation  increases exponentially and investment in the underlying infrastructure grows dramatically.  This is why it is so important that the Subcommittee on Communications and Technology continues to push for the full transition to an all-Internet Protocol (IP) system.

Even thinking of applying the old monopoly-bell era regulations to modern wireless, fiber and cable networks is unfathomable in the current competitive environment. In order for American consumers and businesses to benefit from everything our modern communications networks have to offer, lawmakers must advocate for the best, most practical solutions to quickly move the country into an IP-enabled world and not tax them with outdated regulations.
